About Caubel Retreats

ABOUT

Caubel is a 6 bedroom and 9 bathroom maison de maître nestled amidst a bucolic landscape of wide pastures and rolling hillsides blanketed in sheaves of wheat and towering sunflowers. Renowned for its unspoilt scenery and historic allure, the area has been dubbed ‘the Tuscany of France.’

Visitors come here not only to relax, but also to discover the region’s myriad wonders: from picturesque villages, medieval castles, prehistoric caves and bountiful markets dating back to the 13th century, to popular outdoor pursuits such as nature walks, cycling and exploring the Dordogne as well as the Lot and Garonne rivers.

Caubel Holidays

MARKETS

Many villages host weekly markets that are a cornucopia of the region’s produce, which include succulent strawberries, sun-drenched plums, hazelnuts and rustic duck and goose specialties.

Strolling through the markets is a feast for the senses and a great way to get an authentic taste of the local culinary heritage.

During the summer months, convivial evening markets (marchés nocturnes) and producers’ markets (marchés des producteurs) bring locals and tourists together to enjoy foods prepared on the spot – from grilled duck breast to paella, and from oysters to desserts made with regional fruit.

Caubel Chateaux

CHATEAUX

A little further afield and well worth the trip is the Lot et Garonne’s famous Bonaguil Castle, situated on the top of a hill overlooking a medieval village.

Also, make sure to visit Duras (the village’s main attraction is its château, built between the 12th and 18th century).

More magnificent châteaux can be found in neighbouring Dordogne, known as the ‘Land of 1,001 Castles’.
